Your Guide to a Spring Closet Refresh
When does spring officially begin for you? For some, it’s the brave daffodils that start to peek out from the earth. Or perhaps the first robin bouncing around in your backyard is your sure sign that the season is here.
If you’re like us, spring doesn’t officially begin when the clocks spring forward— the seasonal closet switch out is the truest and most exciting, sign of spring.
And we are not alone—do an online search of spring wardrobe switchovers and you’ll come across a community of like-minded closet organization aficionados.
We’ve put together this guide to make spring cleaning your closet a breeze.
By having a game plan for an organized closet and a spring wardrobe essentials checklist, you can stride into spring feeling refreshed and confident.
Spring into Action
Before you dive into the storage bins and dust bunnies, set the tone by cueing up your favourite playlist, light a candle, and have a cup (or glass) of your beverage of choice close at hand.
Whether you choose the Marie Kondo method to decide if pieces still ‘spark joy’ or the ‘one year’ rule (has a piece lingered forlornly without being worn for a year?), it’s time to get real about both your style and lifestyle: what are the ‘hero’ pieces in your wardrobe that you reach for time and time again?
Having a system will help speed up the spring closet switch-up. Consider how you want to organize your closet: by colour or by category? Think about what will make each trip to your closet fun and efficient for you.
And the pieces that no longer feel new to you anymore might be just what someone else is looking for!
Our Coriander community has so many options for clothing donations or consignments.
For those pieces that are in like-new condition or have only had a few wears, get in touch with ‘Loved You Madly’ in Thornbury to find out about selling by consignment.
The Beaver Valley Outreach’s Treasure Shop sells donated clothing, with the proceeds going directly back into the community. And, from April 1-10, if you bring your pieces that you’ve designated to your ‘donate’ pile (washed and folded please) to Coriander Style, we’ll give you $15 credit towards a clothing purchase you make that day PLUS we’ll take your treasures to the BVO for you! Spring Style 2022
After you’ve washed, steamed, and put those cozy knits and layers into hibernation, it’s time to look for ways to inject fresh spring vibes into your wardrobe.
Knowing how March and April can play with our emotions in this capricious Canadian climate, it’s important to make sure you’ve got the basics covered and to have versatile pieces that can take you effortlessly and comfortably through this temperamental transition.
Coriander has got your Spring 2022 closet refresh covered.
Let’s start with the basics: T-shirts, tanks, and leggings are essentials for feeling spring fresh.
Coriander is excited about our new collection from Mus & Bombon. This Corta Tee is made of 100% organic cotton and its fit makes it the perfect base for a light jacket or cardigan. In subtle neutral hues, these t-shirts will infuse your outfits with springtime freshness.
Jeans are a springtime staple. Ready for whatever the spring day has in store, they pair with a tee, blouse, or cotton sweater.
For those days when it feels warm enough to dare to bare your ankles, FDJ’s slim, cropped jeans feature a flattering tulip hem.
Skirts are another spring essential that helps our legs acclimatize to warmer days.
The floral-print Dashti Skirt from Mus & Bombon features flattering ruching and a comfortable front slit. It's perfect for pairing with a tee, cardigan, or lightweight jacket (and coordinates seamlessly with other pieces in this collection from Spain).
Jackets are essential for this time of year and a great way to inject some springtime colour into your wardrobe.
This Miha leather shacket by Mauritius can be worn buttoned up as a shirt or open as a jacket, making it a beautiful and versatile spring layering piece that elevates a simple jeans and t-shirt combo.
A lightweight cotton sweater or a cardigan is a must-have for spring.
The KARA SWEATER by Mus & Bombon is a light and airy layering piece for endless spring and summer outfit combinations. Slim-fit with a v-neck and side vents, this pullover takes you from those cool spring mornings to the warming rays of the afternoon sun in comfort and style.
A Boutique in Your Closet
Freshening up your closet doesn’t have to be limited to clothing.
While you’ve got it cleared out it’s a great time to assess where you might be able to create more space. Think about how new paint, wallpaper, lighting, or hangers might make it a place that you really enjoy visiting everyday.
Set the tone for your day with an inspirational art piece beside your closet (or inside if it’s a walk-in space). This sign by Hoekstra design should help you start your day beautifully.
By creating your own ‘boutique’ in your closet, you have a space that both celebrates and elevates your style.
Spring is in the air! And, now with Coriander’s guide for a spring wardrobe refresh, it’s in your closet too!
Happy Spring, Friends!
